Interface
Find every part of the Astrofox workspace and learn how the panels work together.
Astrofox keeps project structure and common actions on the left, the rendered stage in the center, element controls on the right, and audio playback along the bottom. Selecting an item in one area updates the others, so you can move between arranging, previewing, and fine-tuning without changing views.
Workspace map#
| Area | Location | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| App bar and actions | Top and far left | Opens, saves, and exports projects; opens settings; shows or hides panels |
| Layers panel | Upper left | Organizes scenes, displays, and effects |
| Reactors panel | Lower left | Creates signals that can drive compatible controls |
| Stage | Center | Previews the composition and provides direct transform and camera tools |
| Controls panel | Right | Edits the selected scene, display, or effect |
| Player and status | Bottom | Plays audio and live input; the status bar under it shows zoom, progress, FPS, and version |
How the areas work together#
The Layers and Controls panels are selection-linked. Select a scene, display, or effect on the left and its control card becomes active on the right. When the Controls panel is showing every layer, selecting a layer also scrolls its card into view.
The Reactors list has its own selection. Selecting a reactor opens its detailed signal editor above the player. You can then bind that signal from a compatible numeric control in the Controls panel.
The Stage reflects both kinds of changes immediately. Layer edits change what is drawn; reactor and player changes update how the composition moves.
A practical editing loop#
Add scenes, displays, and effects in the Layers panel, then drag them into the order you want.
Select a layer and change its values in Controls. Use the Stage transform tool when direct manipulation is faster.
Load audio or enable live input, create a reactor, and bind it to controls such as scale, rotation, opacity, or effect strength.
Play or scrub the track while watching the stage. Tune the reactor and control range until the response matches the sound.
Make more room#
Use the three panel buttons in the app bar to show or hide the left, bottom, or right areas. This changes only the workspace layout; it does not remove layers, change the canvas size, or affect an export.
Hover an icon when its purpose is unclear. Action, stage, player, and panel buttons expose labels in tooltips.
