Picture in picture
Float the stage output in an always-on-top window while you work elsewhere.
Picture in picture opens a small floating window that mirrors the stage. The window stays on top of other applications, which is handy when you are tuning audio or notes in another program during a performance, or when you want the visuals visible on a second screen without moving panels around.
Open and close#
Select Open picture in picture in the tool row above the canvas. The button stays highlighted while the window is open; select Close picture in picture, or close the floating window itself, to stop mirroring.
Only the stage render appears in the window. There is no playback control or audio inside it; play and mix the track from the main window.
The floating window is a live mirror of the canvas. Layer edits, reactor movement, and transport changes show up immediately, so keep editing while it is open.
Requirements#
The feature relies on standard video picture-in-picture support. When the current environment cannot provide it, the button is disabled. If a start attempt fails anyway, Astrofox shows an error dialog.
- Works in modern Chromium browsers and in the desktop app.
- Opening one stage mirror closes any other picture-in-picture video first.
- Closing the main app tab or window stops the mirror along with everything else; there is no orphaned stream to clean up manually.
What it is not#
Picture in picture is a preview convenience, not an output format. It does not affect exports, resolution, or what viewers of a recording see — use Save image or Save video to produce shareable results.
